The Gambia

Located on the west coast of Africa, The Gambia has an area of 11,300 sq km (4,363 sq mi), extending 338 km (210 mi) E–W and 47 km (29 mi) N–S. Comparatively, the area occupied by The Gambia is slightly less than twice the size of the state of Delaware. Bounded on the N, E, and S by Senegal (with which it is joined in the Confederation of Senegambia) and on the W by the Atlantic Ocean, The Gambia has a total boundary length of 820 km (510 mi), of which 80 km (50 mi) is coastline. The Gambia's capital city, Banjul, is located on the Atlantic coast.

It is the smallest country on the African continental mainland and is bordered to the north, east, and south by Senegal, and has a small coast on the Atlantic Ocean in the west. Flowing through the centre of the country and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean is the Gambia River. On 18 February 1965, The Gambia was granted independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; and joined The Commonwealth. Banjul is its capital but the largest conurbation is Serekunda.

The Gambia is surrounded by Senegal on all side except its western coastline in Atlantic. It would not be an independent country had it not been a British enclave in midst of French WeThe Gambia acceded to the world trade organisation (WTO) in October 1996, thus committing to a tariff reform program introduced on a gradual basis over the period, which brought the tariff band down to a maximum of 18% in 1999.

We don't know the current rate of duty but in 2006 the rates were as follows:

• All Customs Tariff rates of 18 per cent were increased to 20 per cent to conform to ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) rates of 5 per cent, 10 per cent and 20 per cent in January 2006
• There was a Sales tax of 15% on all non-0il imports
• An excise duty of 10 percent was levied on Used Cars, in addition to the Customs Duties and Sales Tax
• Vehicle license fees were increased by 30 per cent

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

• Preparation of Customs Entry Form displaying CIF value of goods to be imported
• Submission of Customs Entry Form at Customs & Excise Department
• Customs examination of goods
• Payment of Customs Duty & Government Sales Tax on dutiable items
• Clearance of goods upon signed authority by Customs Department

MOTOR VEHICLES

• Invoice of Purchase
• Certificate of Title (displaying Model, Year, Engine Number, Chassis Number)
• Left hand drive vehicles only
